COOLHURST

World-class wine production is simply the latest chapter in the storied history of Coolhurst Estate. Part of a seventh-generation family estate in Sussex, Coolhurst is now under the stewardship of cousins Charlie and Will, the only two boys of their generation, who took over the land with a clear and focused vision: to craft wines of exceptional quality in very limited quantities for discerning wine lovers.

Charlie left a successful career in advertising photography in pursuit of a more grounded, hands-on life outdoors, after recognizing that the family land was perfectly suited to producing world-class sparkling wine. His creative background is evident in the many thoughtful details that define Coolhurst, from the historic family coat of arms on every label (see picture below) to the distinctive sabrage foil, specially designed for the estate.

Will brings a very different, yet equally compelling, skill set. He served for eight years in the British Army with the Royal Green Jackets, before working internationally with Middle Eastern governments on matters including national elections and border disputes. Returning home to rural England, he found himself more than prepared for the challenges of running a Sussex vineyard.

Every bottle produced at Coolhurst is single-vineyard, single-vintage, and made from carefully hand-picked fruit, offering a true expression of place. While located outside the classic chalk soils often associated with English sparkling wine, Coolhurst’s vines are planted on sandstone and ironstone, lending the wines a distinctive character and sense of individuality.

Coolhurst’s flagship wine, Lady Elizabeth, is named in honor of the daughter of the Marquess of Northampton, who established the estate. The wine has met with critical acclaim, including a Gold Medal at the Independent English Wine Awards in 2021, helping to cement Coolhurst’s reputation for producing pure, expressive sparkling rosé.

At the heart of Coolhurst lies a deep respect for heritage and craft, symbolized by the family coat of arms granted in 1792 by King George III, and reflected in the elegant, tactile design of each bottle. Guided by the philosophy of limited quantity, unlimited quality, Coolhurst remains focused on producing truly special English sparkling wines that honor both history and the unique terroir of Sussex.
